He knows

He knows I am sorry
So he doesn't try to scold
He gives me a look that says
"You were wrong"
and he stands with conviction.

He had compassion for me
Even though I let him down
Even though I let myself down
Even though I was hurting others.

But he had compassion for me
Because he knew I was sick
He knew I was unable
to live with myself.

So he said, "Come"
that I might have a new start
That I might learn
to contribute to life.

Because that's all he wants
It's not for him,
he doesn't need me.
It's just so that I can be
What I was meant to be
And then, he can say
that I had a life
well lived.
